The Distichopora Coral, Distichopora sp. , also known as the Stylaster Coral or Lace Coral is often mistaken for a SPS due to its hard exoskeleton, but is actually classified as a Hydrocoral. Unlike Fire Corals, which are also Hydrocorals, most species will not sting other corals or tank mates in your home aquarium. Its body is made up of calcium carbonate, and forms beautiful ornate tree-like structures, with all the flattened, blunt-ended branches growing in one plane. Its tiny clear polyps extend their tentacles at night to feed on plankton in the water column. Its color also varies and may be greenish, violet, red, orange, yellow, pink, yellowish-brown or pale brown.
