The Halimeda plants  are a calcareous green micro-algae. The Halimeda plant features coin like beaded leaf segments end to end, forming a chain, which looks splendid in water. For this reason the Halimeda plants are also known as money plants. Halimeda plants are peaceful plants and are non-invasive due to which they can be housed with other tank inhabitants.  It is recommended to provide the Halimeda plant with good lighting, such as 2 watts per gallon or more, with 5500-7500 Kelvin bulbs, as it prepares its food by photosynthesis. For better growth additional supplements such as good quality aquarium fertilizers and carbon dioxide can be provided to the Halimeda plant. Along with the former, the Halimeda plants also require sufficient level of calcium in the tank as they deposit calcium carbonate in their tissues. The Halimeda plants cannot tolerate extensive pruning and excess amount of nitrate and phosphate, as they may wilt and perish.
