The Sea Grass Wrasse (Novaculichthys macrolepidotus), also known as the Emerald Wrasse, is a beautiful fish endemic to the Indo-Pacific Ocean and the coast of East Africa. Males have a slender green body with occasional black or white spots, while females and juveniles have a dark red or brown body with similar markings. They reach a maximum size of 6" and should be kept in an aquarium of at least 70 gallons. Lids are recommended, as many fish with slender bodies are prone to jumping. They will predate on crustaceans, so they should be monitored if kept in a reef aquarium. Their diet should consist of well-balanced carnivorous preparations.
